Industry - momentum of economic growth
In the first half of 2024, the province's GRDP was estimated to reach nearly 26.84 trillion VND (1.11 billion USD), a year-on-year increase of 8.19%, ranking 12th out of 63 provinces and centrally-run cities nationwide and 6th out 11 provinces and centrally-run cities in the Red River Delta.
From an agriculture-based province, Ninh Binh's industry and service sectors have accounted for over 80% of its economic structure. Industry has become a momentum for economic growth while tourism has become a spearheaded economic sector and made great contributions to the rapid and sustainable shifting of the province's economic structure.
Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc said the provincial master planning scheme for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 covers some important contents related to the viewpoint on economic development in the "green, sustainable and harmonious" direction, considering tourism and cultural industries as spearheaded economic sectors and automobile industry as amomentum of economic growth.
The province will pay more attention to developing culture, enhancing regional linkages and expanding international cooperation, he said.
By 2035, Ninh Binh will become a centrally-run city with typical characteristics of a millennium heritage urban area and a creative city.
By 2050, it will become a centrally-run city with unique identity and be at the same level of other heritage and creative cities worldwide.
The province will be divided into three different region. Specifically, the central region consists of the planning zone of Ninh Binh city and Tam Diep city. It will have general functions and serve as a momentum for the province's economic growth.
The northwestern region includes Nho Quan and Gia Vien districts. This region will focus on developing ecological tourism, cultural tourism and rural tourisms, and key natural reserves.
While the southeastern region comprises Yen Mo, Kim Son and Yen Khanh districts. It will take agriculture as its key economic sector in association with developing sea-based economy.
Seven central urban areas to be built
A North-South economic corridor of Ninh Binh will be established in parallel with the North-South expressway, railway and NH1A. It will form a central functional area that connect Ninh Binh with other cities and provinces in the Red River Delta and those in the north-central coast region. Three East-West corridors will be also formed.
Ninh Binh will have seven central urban areas, including one first-tier urban area (after Hoa Lu district is emerged with Ninh Binh city), one second-tier urban area (Tam Diep city); five fourth-tier urban areas and two functional urban areas (Gian Khau and Binh Minh).
Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc affirmed that the provincial master planning scheme is a legal foundation for Ninh Binh to devise policies, implement tasks, rearrange space, allocate resources, attract investment, and fully promote potential and strengths in an attempt to realise the target set by the provincial Party Organisation, administration and people of Ninh Binh.
